The UNIVIE Awards recognise members of the University of Vienna who contribute to the university through outstanding commitment, innovation and collaboration. The awards are presented annually in four categories: Equality Award, Green University, International Campus and Smart Collaboration.

We are delighted that Tim Bliek and Vera Flasch from our admin team have received the UNIVIE Green University Award 2026.

They were recognised for the Night Train Support project, a university-wide pilot project that fully digitalises the application and reimbursement process for financial support of night train travel as an alternative to flying on business trips. By providing an accessible application process, transparent communication, and personal support, the project has made sustainable business travel easier for staff. In 2025 alone, it helped save more than 5.2 tons of CO₂.

The awards ceremony took place on 25 June 2026 during the University of Vienna's summer festival.

We would also like to congratulate two colleagues from our Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy who were honoured in other categories:
Martina Egger (Dean's Office / VISESS) received the UNIVIE Smart Collaboration Award as part of the Doc Schools Coordinator Team. 
Kerstin Krellenberg (Department of Geography and Regional Research) received the UNIVIE International Campus Award as a member of the Circle U. Team.
