(Queer) Art meets Science
In spring, the so-called Basisgruppen (BaGru) of various institutes of the University of Vienna came together to organize a number of events during Pride Month. One of these events is the exhibition that is currently taking place in the Rundsaal of the observatory.
Under the domes of the observatory, artworks such as paintings, drawings, prints and poems made by queer students are exhibited together with posters on LGBTQ+ topics, which were also designed by students.
The exhibition is intended to offer LGBTQ+ students a space to exhibit their artworks, while also providing information about the LGBTQ+ community and queer scientists, especially in physics and astronomy.
Above all, this project wants to draw attention to the many students that are part of the LGBTQ+ community and create a first point of contact for a more inclusive atmosphere at the observatory, in which everyone feels comfortable and can work well.
