Mobile Planetarium

With the project "Astronomy to go" we visit schools in Vienna, Lower Austria, and northern Burgenland to bring astronomy closer to students by means of a mobile planetarium.

  • Show

The show duration and content can be adapted to the needs of the group. It can last from 15 minutes to up to 45 minutes (or a school hour).

The planetarium can hold up to 25 people.

We can offer shows in a variety of languages, ask for availability!

  • Space requirements
    • The room must have at least 6 x 6 meters floor space (gyms are usually suitable).
    • The room must be at least 3.20 meters high.
    • A power outlet must be available.
    • The mobile planetarium must be set up indoors.
    • In case the visit lasts more than a day, we need to leave the planetarium over the night in a locked room.
  • Costs

The cost of the visit is divided in two parts, the show and the transportation.

The cost of the show depends on the length of the show, the following table shows the costs of one-hour long shows (for shorter shows the price is lower accordingly):

Number of booked showsCost per show
    1130 €
    290 €
    3-470 €
    5-660 €

The cost of the transportation is 30 € per day plus 50 cents/km. This cost can be ignored if the school is able to provide the transportation.

Cost example. If a school books 4 shows and is located 100 km away from the Observatory, the whole cost of the visit would be 4x70€ + 30€ + 0.5 x 100€ x 2 (back and forth) = 410€ (about 4€ per kid).

**If your school has difficulties in paying for the visit, you can apply for a payment weave.

  • Booking

Book your visit at least a month in advance. Bookings that do not comply with this will not be processed.

Please be aware that our team consists of motivated students, that alongside their studies want to share their fascination of astronomy. Therefore, it is possible that due to lectures/exams some dates might have to be rescheduled. We apologize if this might be the case. We will do our best to avoid such a situation.

We hence kindly ask you to always consider a backup-date for the show.

All dates for January - June 2024 are already fully booked
