Information regarding the Course of the Programme

As in the Bachelor programme, there are several important details to note:

     

  • Currently, eight elective courses (Wahlmodule) are offered in total, each worth 8 ECTS. Each of the eight courses is part of one of three subject areas (Galaxies and the Universe, Stars and Planets, and Astronomical Instruments and Methods). It is necessary to complete at least six of these eight courses in order to achieve the required 48 ECTS. Furthermore, one must complete at least one course belonging to each of the three subject areas.

  • Only two of these elective courses are offered per semester, in a cycle that repeats every 2 years. It is therefore not recommended to put off courses. The following table describes the schedule of the elective courses offered during the current cycle:

  • The Research Seminar, which is always held in the winter semester, is to be attended as part of the process of completing the Master thesis. In the Seminar, one presents one’s own work, and current astrophysical topics as well as fundamental questions regarding scientific theory are discussed.
  •  

  • The remaining courses can be freely chosen from the changing selection of seminars, lectures, and practical courses offered at the Institute. Any Master-level course can be chosen for the required 14 ECTS of related science courses.
