What makes the Department of Astrophysics and the University of Vienna special?
“Team Sternwarte” – meaningful, appreciative and stimulating: At the historical University Observatory, we see ourselves as a vibrant supporting community. Everyone is welcome to contribute and get involved. We are particularly proud of our current sustainability group, running team, a small music ensemble and joint morning yoga, and of our weekly Astro Colloquium, Astro Coffee and Institute Seminar, as well as our yearly Winter Party and Astro Hike.
Scientific environment – international, excellent and diverse: As a recognized research institute, we are globally networked and in constant exchange with colleagues from all over the world. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are essential to our community values. Thanks to Austria's membership of ESA and ESO, we have access to first-class observation facilities. Our excellent infrastructure is complemented by the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC), which enables high-performance computing.
Work-life balance – supportive, healthy and flexible: As employees of the University of Vienna, we benefit from, among others, health checks and good health insurance, numerous fitness offers from university sports, health days, free vaccinations and subsidies for aids like computer glasses. The University of Vienna also offers flexible working hours / home office options and provides support with childcare during the holidays and flying nannies.
Finances and education – transparent, stable and diverse: The University of Vienna has been at the forefront of research and teaching for more than 660 years. The collective agreement with 14 monthly salaries ensures a transparent salary structure. There are allowances for travel costs and a company pension scheme. In addition, we greatly appreciate the extensive range of free courses for professional and personal training and development.
Commitment & responsibility – liveable, sustainable and environmentally conscious: A view from our terrace in the middle of Sternwartepark reminds us every day how important it is to use our resources mindfully. The excellent local public transport in the metropolis of Vienna, the covered bicycle parking spaces in front of the entrance door and the initiatives of our sustainability group facilitate environmentally conscious behavior in everyday life. Our dedicated public relations team brings our discoveries and knowledge to the world - a sustainable contribution that inspires and lives responsibility.
